Though the not-fat person in today's comic isn't doing it, what actually fascinates me most is when a not-fat person is obnoxious about someone else's fatness in front of me. Fortunately I don't encounter this often, because I don't spend a lot of time around assholes, but it does occasionally happen that someone I'm in company with makes a dumb crack at a fat person's expense. This leaves me to wonder: is it that you don't notice I'm being fat right next to you; that you know I'm here but don't think my feelings deserve consideration; that you are so confident in its being your privilege to abuse a fat person that it doesn't occur to you that anyone, even the actual fat person standing right here, would question it; or that fat people are just "the other" and because I'm not "the other" you don't think of me as fat?
On Monday night I suddenly developed one of those one-day colds. I think it was writing so much about the plague that did it.
