Skeptical of spring

Possibly the efficacy of this comic is diminished by the fact that it looks as if I'm talking to a sea anemone, or a Lovecraftian tentacle, or an Amazonian jungle vine. It would be silly to talk to any of those things; I'm talking to a tree branch here in Manhattan, though as I so often think when I'm done with a stix, I could probably have made that clearer somehow. It's like when you're in a writing workshop, and you think your work is perfectly lucid, and everyone comes at you with questions like Is this happening in New York or Jokkmokk, Sweden? Because what you said on page four really made me think it was happening in Jokkmokk, Sweden, but then on page eight...

I happen to be in a writing workshop at the moment, and I learned from the comments on a chapter of a novel I'm writing that one of the other workshop participants had never heard of Jeff Dahmer. She had to look him up for my chapter! So it's nice to know that I'm having that kind of positive impact on others through my writing.

--I was going to end this entry there, but I should not be so flippant about the writing workshop, because it's taking a lot out of me to be critiqued. In fact, just to get through the others' comments to learn the Jeff Dahmer thing I had to take them to my therapist today and read them out loud to her. This evening, which is to say Thursday evening, they will be telling me what they thought of the second chapter, and I won't be allowed to talk until they're done!
