I'm going to mail it tomorrow. I know, I know. Shut up. I made it shorter and punchier and less whiny on substitute's advice, because substitute knows everything. Here's what it looks like now:
Primarily I hope to gain a more objective sense of my talents and skills. To improve my work I need the criticism of my peers and of mature writers. I also hope to make friends with other writers so that we can help each other after the conference ends.

All that is actually true, and I could send it off like that or I could try to make it a little, you know, sexier. Any thoughts?
