Bubble nest

Today I awoke to find Bela constructing a bubble nest, a thing bettas keep their eggs and fry in. Males construct them by breathing in and spitting out surface air, just in case a female happens by. If one does, and she lays some eggs for him to fertilize, he then carries them to the bubble nest and secures each fertilized egg in its own bubble. Then he chases her away, because she'll eat the eggs if he doesn't. Apart from the act of mating, known as the "nuptial embrace," bettas don't have much use for each other.
