Sometimes I pick at the skin lining my ear canal. I just kind of absently stick my pinky finger in there and scrape at it with my fingernail. I know it's a bad idea to stick things in one's ear, but I am prone to fidgeting, especially in self-contained ways. Unfortunately, now I seem to have given myself a mild infection. So I poured a little hydrogen peroxide in there, which produced a tremendous fizzing noise that was kind of cool, actually -- like having Niagara Falls in my skull. What was less cool was when the excess trickled out of my ear and down my neck. Even after I mopped it up with a washcloth a certain vinegary odor remained, as if I had tripped and fallen face-first into a green salad. I guess it's good that no one asked me about it.
Sometimes I like being myself, if only because I know no one else could do it quite right.
