The Sorrows of Young Werewolf

This friendzone thing is fascinating to me in the same way that alchemy and the redemption movement are, because like those belief systems it is an attempt to understand reality that has nothing to do with reality. Each of these belief systems involves a model of reality that operates by various rules, and when those rules end up not applying to actual reality, this is perceived as being reality's fault, not the fault of the model. What fascinates me is the honest conviction that reality is wrong -- not morally, but in some literal way, as a person would be wrong if she said that two plus two equals fifty-five. The appropriate response to not getting what you want is not to change your behavior or even to attempt to change reality -- because changing reality is possible, and sometimes that's a rational response. No, the appropriate response to not getting what you want is to try to convince reality that it's been wrong the whole time. Wait, you're right, lead really does want to be gold! The name rendered in capital letters on a Social Security card really is a separate person to whom separate laws apply! Women really are vending machines that dispense sex when you deposit enough nice-guy behavior!
