The Sorrows of Young Werewolf

Take up thy bedding and walk

I got the idea of Rat Jesus from a discussion of Jesus's injunction not to worry about the mote in your brother's eye. This would sound terrible to rats, who literally cannot live without mutual grooming. Then I started thinking of all the other ways in which Jesus's teachings would make no sense to them. Much of these teachings come naturally to rats, who do not serve Mammon, and who live communally, often caring for the weakest among them. (Wild rats have been observed bringing food to injured pack mates.) They would wonder why anyone would bother to preach such obvious practices. But then the stuff about being the light of the world, and never walking in darkness, would seem positively threatening. Instead of walking on water, Rat Jesus would walk right out into the middle of the room with the light on. Rat Peter would try to follow him but freak out and scamper back to the wall.
