So I had a date on Saturday. Which is to say, I made a date for Saturday, but when Saturday rolled around I hadn't heard from him since Tuesday. So I e-mailed him to ask, "Are we still on?" and didn't hear, so just in case I went downtown to the bar where we were supposed to meet, and as I'd expected he wasn't there. So I had some beers and came home. Then, at three in the morning, he wrote to say that "some things came up" and he'd been unable to show up or write to say that he wouldn't be showing up. But he'd like to see me next Saturday!
You guys, I just don't know. Let me backtrack a little and tell you how I met this guy. We were at a coffee shop and he was reading a physics textbook and I was writing my novel. And we started chatting and we had a very nice conversation and he had a sitar with him and I asked him are you any good at playing that and he said do you want to hear and I said yeah I do so we went outside and he played the sitar for me. And I thought wow, nothing like this has ever happened to me before, this is a meet-cute like in the movies. People were walking by like "Is that guy playing a sitar right there on the sidewalk?" and I was thinking, "Yes he is, he's playing it FOR ME because he wants me to like him!" And when he asked for my e-mail address I gave it to him and wow, a real man who really noticed me and he was cute and we talked about books and chess and Hinduism and stuff.
So anyway, I wrote back to him and said well I'm kind of annoyed, could you walk me through what happened there? And I haven't heard from him, and my money's on never hearing from him, because that's what happens to me: men respond to me briefly and then flee. I don't know why this happens. If I knew I'd make it stop, because it's awful.
